Common easyCMS Errors and What They Mean

An index of the exact wording easyCMS and your players put on screen, the plain meaning of each message, and the article that fixes that particular one.

This page is the index for the Errors and fixes section. If you are holding a photograph of a screen, or a message you were not expecting, find the wording below. Each entry gives the plain meaning and links to the article that fixes it.

Finding the exact wording

A photograph of a blank screen tells nobody much, the real message lives in the player’s own status window. On Android R206 and later and on Windows, press i on a connected keyboard. On an LG webOS panel, press the yellow button on the remote and choose Status from the Action bar. Older Android builds want a mouse click instead. Reading the Player Status Window has the full table.

Messages on the Add a display page

These appear at Add a display, where you name and connect a new screen.

  • That display is no longer available to claim. — the screen has already been connected, or it registered more than ten minutes ago and dropped off the list. Restart the player, let it check in, reload.
  • Display self-enrolment is not enabled. — switched off at our end, not something on your login. Tell us and we will look at it.
  • The CMS could not be reached. Please try again. — temporary, at our end, not a fault with your screen.
  • That sign-in attempt expired., Sign-in was cancelled., We couldn’t sign you in. — a sign-in lasts thirty minutes; a page left open while you walked to the screen is the usual cause.
  • Your plan covers N displays and all of them are in use. Add a licence to connect another screen. — you may see this where an allowance has been configured. Read nothing into its absence, the rule is one licence per screen and we check accounts against what has been paid for. Buy a licence, or free a slot by deauthorising a screen you no longer run. Deauthorise, never delete.

An empty list is not a message. Usually the device you are browsing from is on a different internet connection from the screen, which the page requires, or it has not checked in yet.

Messages the player itself shows

  • Display is Registered and awaiting Authorisation from an Administrator in the CMS, on older players Display is awaiting licensing approval from an Administrator — the player has reached easyCMS correctly and is waiting for you to claim it at Add a display. Nothing is broken, the screen is inert until you do, holding no licence. See A New Display Is Not Showing Up or Says It Is Awaiting Approval.
  • Player is missing dependencies — the player cannot assemble a layout, supporting files are missing from the library. Open Displays, the row menu, Edit, the Advanced tab, tick Clear Cached Data and save. Never delete files from the device by hand. If it returns, only we can reinstall those files, send us the display name.
  • Licensed: false on the status window, or the word Unlicensed — the commercial player licence has not been applied, or has failed to re-verify. See Player Licence Problems.

The failure that produces no message at all

Android and LG webOS screens carry a commercial player licence that re-verifies roughly every 30 days. When that check fails nothing appears on the screen at all, only the player’s own status window reports it. The screen keeps playing what it already had and quietly stops taking anything new, a display still showing last month’s promotion is the classic symptom. Windows players are free and never do this. Player Licence Problems explains how to confirm it.

The icons on the Displays page

The status column in the Displays grid answers most questions before you open anything.

The Displays grid showing status icons, the logged-in column and last accessed times The Displays grid answers most questions before you open anything else: what each screen is doing, and when it last spoke to easyCMS.

  • A cloud means changes are queued, the player will collect them at its next check-in.
  • A cross means a download is in progress, a large video over a slow connection takes a while.
  • A tick means everything is downloaded and the player is up to date, so if the screen still looks wrong the fault is the layout or the schedule.

In the logged in column, a tick means the player has checked in recently, an X means it has not, usually because the device is offline or shut down.
