With easyCMS we could rely on professional advice to equip our 14 fast food locations with digital signage. With this new set-up we can communicate more efficiently across our locations and increase sales.
Who they are
Fritapapa is a Belgian fast-food chain built around the frite: fries, snacks, burgers and the sauces that go with them. Twenty restaurants at the time of writing. When Pierre Artuso gave us the quote above there were fourteen, and the set-up has not changed since: what was designed for fourteen restaurants simply took on six more.
What they needed
A chain has one communication problem that a single restaurant never has. A promotion has to start in every restaurant on the same morning and end in every restaurant on the same night. Posters do not do that. Somebody prints them, somebody drives them round, and a week later three restaurants are still showing the old one.
Fritapapa did not want to replace its menus. The menu is printed, lit and changes rarely. What it wanted was one screen per restaurant for the things that change every few weeks: the new product, the price of the special, the online ordering app.
What runs on the screens
One landscape screen above the counter in each restaurant, in view of the queue. On it, a short loop: the promotion of the moment (in the photograph, a chicken skewer at 3.50 €), a reminder that you can order online or through the app, and whatever the season calls for. The printed menu board stays exactly where it was. The screen sells; the menu lists.
How it is set up
Each restaurant received an easyCMS Android player, configured before it shipped. The restaurant plugs it into the screen’s HDMI port and the display appears in the CMS, already named and already in the right group. Nobody at the restaurant has to set anything up, which matters when the restaurant is a counter and a fryer rather than an office.

All twenty displays sit in one account, in one display group. A campaign scheduled to the group reaches every restaurant; a campaign scheduled to a single display reaches one, for an opening or a local price. The layouts were designed once, so a new promotion is a new image and a line of text, not a new design.
Content is cached on the player. If the restaurant’s Wi-Fi drops in the middle of the lunch rush, the loop keeps playing and the player picks up any changes when the connection returns. We wrote up how that works in digital signage without internet.
What changed
The same promotion is live in every restaurant the morning it starts, and gone the night it ends. A new restaurant is a player in a box. And nobody drives posters around Belgium any more. The rest of what changed is in Pierre Artuso’s words, not ours: more efficient communication across the locations, and more sales.
If your restaurants look like this, many sites and similar content, start with digital signage for restaurants and bars or, if it is the menu you want on screen rather than the promotion, digital menu boards.
